About Us

About us

We're a local Scout group that's been around for over 60 years, formed in 1958. Our group has about 60 young members spread across three sections: Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

We are based at the 46th Coventry Scout Hut on Winsford Avenue, next to the Allesley Park Community Centre. Our sections meet weekly during term time.

We take part in District events including the Swimming Gala, Beavers and Cubs Christingles, and Scout trolley race, among others, as well as County events such as the Big Walk. With your help, we can take part in international events held in the UK in the future, like the Kent International Jamboree, Cubjam, Norjam, West Sussex International Jamboree or Essex International Jamboree.

Family Involvement

We encourage you to come into the hut when dropping young people off, so we get to know you. There are lots of ways you can be involved and support our young people's development without becoming a leader. For example, helping out on a parent rota, being a Trustee, helping with hut cleaning, maintenance, gardening or many other opportunities!

Structure

The 46th Coventry Scouts is part of The Scout Association. The country is divided into Counties, each of which can be further subdivided into Districts. We are part of Coventry County and Bablake District. Our group is made up of three sections: Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. We have a team of volunteers who lead the Scout group. Each section has a Team Leader, along with other Team Members. Managing the group, we have the Group Lead Volunteer (often referred to as simply the GLV). As we are a charity, we also have a Trustee Board, which is made up of a Chairperson, Treasurer, the GLV and up to 9 other Trustees, who are either chosen by the Trustee Board for specialist skills/knowledge or appointed at our Annual General Meeting.

All local Scouting is run entirely by volunteers.

We comply with the Policy, Organisation and Rules document (the POR), published and updated regularly by The Scout Association. As such, all our adult helpers are DBS checked. Further information is available in the Scouts Safe and Sound leaflet.
