Week 17: January 27–30 2025

January 31, 2025

For the next few weeks, the Scouts are working in their patrols on three separate activities. One group was working on programming the Circuit Playground Express to light up, make sounds or other responses to inputs in a way of their choice. Another group was learning German phrases and the third group was discussing the rules the Scout troop should hold, according to the Scout laws and values. They also practiced their knot skills, making a long length of rope from short lengths, to pull a teammate the length of the room on a cart. Looks like great fun!

The Scouts are racing in a blur of speed to get to the rope first, as is one of their leaders. The Scouts are working together to turn several lengths of rope into one length, by knotting them together.Working together as a team, the Scouts are making one long rope length to pull their teammate back to them. The Scouts are pulling their teammate along the length of the room on a cart, having turned their short rope length into one long length.

The Cubs talked about different types of disabilities, matched celebrities to their disabilities and made posters about disability awareness.

This week, the Beavers learned the BSL alphabet and how to fingerspell their names. They also got to practice the ASL alphabet. The Beavers had a really good conversation about different disabilities and it was encouraging to see what they already know. At the end of the evening, one of the Beavers had her swimming up ceremony and was awarded her Bronze Award.

This Beaver has finished her time at Beavers and is moving up to Cubs. As part of the ceremony, she has to crawl under the "river" blanket being waved by the Beaver colony, holding onto a rope pulled by a Cub waiting to receive her into the Pack. This Beaver has worked really hard and achieved the highest award a Beaver can, her Bronze Award.
