Week 7: October 21–24

The Scouts took part in the National Scout Rifle Championships postal competition on Monday, which also helped those taking part to complete their Master At Arms badge. There are some skilled Scouts in our group and even the two new Scouts who were using rifles for the first time did well. While some Scouts shot their 4 targets, the others made French toast in the kitchen. Tasty!

Tuesday night the Cubs got to write secret messages in lemon juice and a bicarbonate of soda and water solution, which was revealed with a turmeric and water solution. While they waited for the messages to dry for the reveals, they played wink murder. Lots of very dramatic deaths! The lemon messages didn't show up well at all, but the bicarb and turmeric messages definitely did. Katy will probably have yellow fingertips for some time, though!

It turns out that some of the Beavers have a pretty good idea of what kind of things you can find the Fair Trade label on, although it took them quite a few extra guesses to work out where in the world those items originate. They looked at labels on coffee, tea and hot chocolate to work out whether they were Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance or nothing at all. Afterwards there were the usual lodge games, as the Beavers chose to start with the badgework this week, then chair races, a couple rounds of wink murder and the perpetual favourite, dodgeball!

One team seems to be struggling, but the other two teams are neck and neck. Who will win? Spoiler: it was the middle team.
